From a working-class background, he graduated from UCLan in 2008 and completed a Masters in Creative Writing at LJMU in 2012. He won the Liverpool Literary Festival Short Story Competition 2024 and has self-published a collection of short stories, The Dogs on the Beach & Other Stories He was shortlisted for the Sunderland Short Story Award 2018 and longlisted in 2019.
