Loud chanting voices plus dreams of falling into fire or watching others surrounded by fire were some of the dreams that plagued Keori, the dwarf son (half dwarf, half human) that is the main character in this book. He is informed by a wizard that he is a Borned-One, chosen by and connected to the universe where he obtains his amazing powers. At first his self-doubt interferes with him believing in himself. He acquires friends who assist him in his journey where creatures like the ice witch and the inn keeper, Chatar, try to imprison him. His friends help him escape. There are many other escapades. Most importantly is his and the large army of humans, dwarves and trolls fighting together to defeat the Marauder and his hordes. Slowly in his seeking he begins to find himself and at the end, leaves to go to Mt. Ternary to meditate and connect with the universe.
