The Elimination of the Tramp (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781019593295)

This pioneering study offers a radical solution to the problem of homelessness and poverty in the United States: the establishment of labour colonies modeled on successful programs in Europe. Edmond Kelly argues that by providing work, education, and rehabilitation to homeless and unemployed individuals, these colonies can help to eliminate the so-called 'tramp problem' and promote social and economic stability. This book will appeal to anyone interested in the history of social reform and the politics of poverty.
