The Eternal Priesthood (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025392141)

"The Eternal Priesthood" is a profound theological and spiritual treatise exploring the divine nature and solemn responsibilities of the Catholic clergy. Written by Cardinal Henry Edward Manning, one of the most influential figures of the nineteenth-century Church, this work examines the priest's identity as a minister of Christ and a shepherd of souls. Manning delves into the ontological character of the priesthood, emphasizing the necessity of personal sanctity and the imitation of the High Priest, Jesus Christ.

The book covers essential aspects of the priestly life, including the administration of the sacraments, the duty of preaching, and the cultivation of a disciplined interior life. Manning's insights bridge the gap between abstract theology and the practical challenges of parish ministry, offering guidance on the priest's relationship with the laity and the importance of pastoral charity. "The Eternal Priesthood" remains a foundational text for seminarians, priests, and those interested in Catholic ecclesiology, providing a timeless vision of the spiritual dignity and sacrificial calling of those ordained to the altar.
