The study shows how Mme de Villedieu (Marie-Catherine Desjardins), a popular and prolific writer at the time of Louis XIV, modified the genre creating a new form, the nouvelle galante. The Author: A graduate of Denison University, Nancy D. Klein received her M.A. from Middlebury College and her Ph.D. from Cornell University. She has taught at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, New York, and at the State University of New York, Buffalo, New York. Dr. Klein has presented several papers on Mme de Villedieu's writings at conferences on romance languages and literatures.
