I am the fear in search of light.

I am the howls of the night.

And I have also been the monster that haunts my own mind.
The words that strike me where it most hurts.
I am my own ghost that lurks.
I am the healing and the injuries.

I am my own armor, but also the dagger.
I am the sorrow concealed by laughter.
When it is today, I am tomorrow.
I am a sunny day but also a natural disaster.
The hurricane and the landfall that causes it to dissipate.
I am my own anchor but also the sweeping waves.

I am the blooms but also the decay.
I am insanity, and I'm also sane.
I am the hope when I no longer want to try.
I am the relief and the disappointed sigh.
I am a human, like everyone else, running on time.
But I will always be the fight no matter how hard I'm hit by life.

I hear you in this desert heat, echoing how you would be my sanctuary.
Your broken promises still linger in disbelief.
You put a bandage over my grief.
But I should've known you knew I needed stitches.
Now you left me here to bleed.

I never thought it would come to this.
Your betrayal hurt more than those triple scorpion stings.
And the venom in your words keeps finding its way in.
I feel you crawling on my skin.
My body fights to resist, but as I wipe you off your residue sticks.

This blazing sun is blinding me.
I feel my body burning, yet I'm shivering.
I hear every drop of sweat amplified by your deceit.
My body is giving up, but it's my mind you still have to defeat.
The one you portrayed as weak.

I see the vultures waiting me out.
I bet you thought I'd be dead by now.
But I will not be a carrion.
You'll have to eat me alive.
You can go ahead and send the coyotes at night, but I will still fight.

Hope is the last thing to die.
And it's been my dagger and my light in many other lives.
They've killed me before, but I always revive.
