David J. Weeks served in the United States Navy, on the USS Skywatcher and in the Submarine Service. Following his tour of duty he attended Strathclyde University in Glasgow, where he received a B. A. (HONS) degree, followed by an M. Phil. degree in Clinical Psychology and a Ph.D. in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He conducted the world's first and only scientific investigation into eccentric people, as well as studies of gifted children, young people with Asperger's syndrome, and other people who for various reasons were ostracized from their families. He also studied people in America and the United Kingdom who felt and looked significantly younger than their age.
