Randy Mains had a 50-year career flying helicopters here and abroad to include Australia, New Guinea, and Iran as a senior instructor pilot for Bell Helicopter. He became a pioneer in helicopter air ambulance in America in January 1979. He was head-hunted by the Royal Oman Police to set up a country-wide air medical program in the Sultanate of Oman. He flew as an air medical pilot for the King of Saudi Arabia. After 9/11 he took a job with Abu Dhabi Aviation as a line pilot, flight examiner and flight simulator instructor teaching and examining over 20 nationalities of pilots. He returned home to teach crew resource management to air medical crews to try to bring down an unacceptable accident rate in what was termed by the news media as one of the most dangerous jobs in America. According to one study by 40 air medical professionals, 94% of the accidents studied had an element of human error so he created a 5-day CRM train-the-trainer course to teach others how to be CRM instructors based on the European model as airline CRM instructors as he was trained. His course has attracted professionals from the US, Canada Europe, the UK, Australia and Japan.
