The Governess of Ashmoor House: A Gothic Mystery of a Shuttered Wing, a Widowed Governess, and a House That Answers Carefully (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798189321665)

The north wing has been shuttered for years. No one at Ashmoor House will say why.

Widowed and out of situations, Vivian Thorncastle takes a governess post on the strength of a letter and a wage she cannot refuse. The house that meets her at the end of a long moor road is grey stone, half-lit by oil lamp, and kept by a housekeeper whose answers are always careful and never complete. One wing stands dark behind closed shutters. No one has explained why, and no one intends to.

Vivian was hired to teach a child. What she finds instead is a household built around a silence, a family who answer every question with exactly enough truth to close it, and a warning left behind by the woman who held her position before her. Ashmoor House does not lie to her. It simply never tells her enough.

The Governess of Ashmoor House is Book One of The Ashmoor House Mysteries, a series of gothic mysteries about the women who enter old estates as outsiders and learn exactly what those houses were built to protect.

Perfect for readers of atmospheric gothic mystery, country-house secrets, and heroines who refuse to stop asking the question everyone wants closed.
