'The Great Basin Murders' was a series of murders that took place from 1983-97 in multiple states. The female victims were from ages 18-35, and their bodies were dumped near the interstate highways in the Great Basin area - although some of the victims had been found in snowdrifts, or rivers. Many of the victims had similarities in their murders, which led the authorities to believe that a great deal of them had been committed by the same person - possibly the work of a serial killer (or multiple serial killers working in the same region). For many of these murders, the victims remained unidentified for years - and some of them have yet to be identified. A few of the victims' families were able to get closure, as the cases were eventually solved. But for some of them, the cases are still open.
