The Greek Virus: Hellenism, Alexandria, and the Battle for the Jewish Mind (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798251013429)

Discover the World That Prepared the Way for the Messiah

The years between the Old and New Testaments are often called the "Silent Years," but they were anything but quiet. In The Greek Virus, the second volume of The 400 Silent Years series, Aaron Gordon takes you on a journey through the cultural earthquake that reshaped the biblical world forever.

The Conqueror and the Culture

When Alexander the Great swept across the East, he brought more than just an army; he brought a worldview. While previous empires wanted your taxes, Alexander wanted your mind. This volume explores how Greek culture-the "Greek Virus"-infiltrated every level of Jewish life, offering a sophisticated "upgrade" to the ancient faith that carried hidden costs.

From Alexandria to Jerusalem

Walk the streets of Alexandria, the intellectual capital of the ancient world and the birthplace of the Septuagint. Discover how seventy scholars translated the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek, creating the very delivery system that would one day carry the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

The Battle for the Jewish Mind

This is not just a history of kings and battles; it is a story of families and faith. The Greek Virus examines the raw tension of living in a culture obsessed with "enlightenment"

• The Gymnasium vs. The Altar: Why did Jewish priests leave their sacred duties to compete in Greek athletics?

• The Price of Belonging: How did ordinary families navigate the pressure to assimilate in the workplace, the school, and the marketplace?

• The Fullness of Time: See how God used a "pagan" language and a fractured empire to build the infrastructure for the arrival of Jesus Christ.

Perfect for Personal or Group Study

Written with a conversational tone and rigorous scholarship, this book includes a comprehensive 10-week study guide. Whether you are a student of history or a believer looking to understand the world of the New Testament, The Greek Virus reveals that God was never more active than when He seemed most silent.
