When help finally arrive they go back and discover that Dotty, who they left behind has a rare and enthralling talent. She is a natural heartsinger, able to draw out emotion with song. As time goes on Tad comes to accept that Dotty is also his mate, the one person his mind longs to bond with, to share a single connection to the planet linking them life to life, mind to mind and heart to heart. After the bond begins to form Tad and Dotty discover that she has been poisoned and their life together may be much shorter than either of them hoped.
