The Hero of Pamplona and Other Mostly True Stories is a memoir composed of twenty-two short stories from the life of Len Wechsler. They are personal and deeply reflective, encompassing danger, joy, sadness, friendship, and deception. Whether in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Pamplona, Lisbon, or Tangiers, the author believes that if a story touches him, it will also touch the reader. Of course, that is something you, the reader, will have to decide.
Len Wechsler grew up in New York City and went to college in the Midwest. After graduating, he studied philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris, played professional basketball in France and Italy, and circled the Mediterranean on a Vespa GS. After receiving a master's degree at NYU, he taught in New York and California. His filmmaking career began in the mid-1970's when he was one of the first to capture the thrill and beauty of surfing and skateboarding on film. Screenwriting for feature films followed. He returned to Europe, where he lived and worked in Portugal for thirteen years. Recently, he co-wrote a play about the underbelly of Los Angeles that had its debut in New York City. A member of the Writers Guild of America West, Len lives in California, where he continues to write and even play hoops now and then - although he can no longer hit a 3-pointer.
