Marci Robbins, to support Debra Ann's article on homelessness takes a dark turn when she learns that people on the street are too often turning up missing. Adding to her challenges, private detective and friend Harry Sanderson calls Debra Ann with a problem. His East Coast office needs publicity as cover to protect a client's son, now known as Jeremy Hansen. The young man is in a difficult employment situation with a shadowy depopulation group. Harry asks Debra Ann if she can discreetly interview Jeremy, find out if his story rings true, and if so, publish it to major outlets.

Book 2:

Meanwhile, Frank Spector really wants to save humanity from itself. It's not that he's the least bit altruistic. It's that he so enjoys the work, especially the methods he employs. Vice president of an ad agency's Boston branch, his serial-killing side hobby has perfectly prepared him for his companion role in the multinational Hodin cabal.
