The Home Soap Maker's Guide: A Beginner's Approach to Crafting Natural Cold Process Bars with Herbs and Essential Oils (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798189714184)

Five recipes. Seven oils. Four essential oils weighed to the gram, never guessed by the drop. No synthetic colour anywhere. No fragrance oils, no shimmer mica, no melt and pour shortcuts.

That short list is the whole scope of this book, and the narrowness is the point. Most beginner guides scatter across shimmer mica, fragrance oils, and pour-in-the-bag bases that skip the chemistry. This one stays in cold process, teaching the reason behind every choice before a recipe leans on it.

From a Plain First Bar to a Facial Bar

• Build a five ingredient olive oil bar that puts the whole cold process under a magnifying glass
• Calm reactive skin with a lavender and oatmeal bar raised to a higher superfat with added shea
• Layer calendula, chamomile, and a measured spoonful of raw honey into one gently warming bar
• Clarify oilier skin with a rosemary, mint, and activated charcoal bar built on a firmer base
• Close with a rose clay and geranium facial bar, the most restrained formula in the whole book
• Colour every bar with clays and botanicals alone, never a synthetic pigment, oxide, or mica
• Scent each batch with lavender, rosemary, peppermint, or geranium at a measured, skin safe rate

Five bars in, the recipes quietly stop being instructions and start becoming decisions you make on your own, with numbers you have checked yourself.

The Chemistry Under Every Pour

• Calculate lye and superfat from each oil's own saponification value
• Read trace, gel phase, and a four to six week cure rather than guessing
• Infuse dried herbs into water or oil and keep the colour a bar can hold
• Handle sodium hydroxide with the ventilation and pouring order that keep it safe
• Zap test and fully cure a bar before it ever touches anyone's skin

One scale. One patient cure. One bar you finally understand from the inside out rather than follow on faith. What began as a nervous first pour, gloves on and goggles fogging, becomes a craft you carry into a recipe no one has written down yet.

Start with the bar that hides nothing, then let the next four teach you the rest of the craft, one skill at a time.
