A graduate in biological sciences from the University of California at Santa Barbara, Mr. Kelly joined the Peace Corps in 1985 where he was stationed in a small village in Liberia, West Africa. After finishing his tour, he traveled extensively throughout West Africa before becoming an observer with NOAA where he spent time in the Bearing Sea working on foreign fishing vessels collecting biological data. After his stint with NOAA, he returned to West Africa where he started up an import business buying local artisans' works and selling them in America- a venture he considers an extension of his Peace Corps work as he tries to expand the market for the artisans of West Africa. Mr. Kelly currently lives in Santa Barbara where he continues to write and travel, and as he says, "I just keep fighting the good fight."
