Tappan Adney, a New York journalist, was dispatched to the Yukon in 1897, at the height of the gold fever, to "furnish news and pictures of the new gold fields." Tappan Adney was born in Athens, Ohio, in 1868. He spent sixteen months in the Klondike, living and travelling with the stampeders. He returned to the north in 1900 to cover the Nome, Alaska, gold rush. He later moved to Woodstock, New Brunswick, where he died in 1950.
