Neither boy can understand this sudden-strange-phenomenon, and together the pair of them ride through Bellevue and its surrounding towns on Zachary's motorcycle, only to find them uninhabited. Gray and Zachary soon realize they are the last two people on earth. At first, this worries them, but it's not long before neither cares.

Gray loves being with Zachary-who he finds shares his love of anime and video games. Gray shows Zachary some of his drawing techniques, and Zachary attempts to teach Gray how to play football, though they are both hopeless at the others' passions-but neither minds. To Gray's surprise, his unlikely friendship with Zachary soon becomes something more, and it's not long before the two of them begin hoping they will remain the last boys on earth forever.
