Rancher, retired country lawyer, and award-winning author Bill Neal is a native of Medicine Mound, Texas where his ancestors were ranchers and early settlers of the community. Bill initially wrote two books on that area's local history: "The Last Frontier: The Story of Hardeman County" (1966) and "Our Stories: Legend of the Mounds" (1997). Subsequently, he focused his writing efforts on covering the development of justice on the frontier with works that include: "Getting Away With Murder on the Texas Frontier: Notorious Killings and Celebrated Trials" (2006); "From Guns to Gavels: How Justice Grew Up in the Outlaw West" (2007); "Sex, Murder & the Unwritten Law: Courting Judicial Mayhem, Texas Style" (2009); "Vengeance is Mine: The Scandalous Love Triangle that Triggered the Boyce-Sneed Feud" (2011); and "Skullduggery, Secrets, and Murders: The 1894 Wells Fargo Scam That Backfired" (2015). Bill Neal still owns a small ranch in the Medicine Mound community. He and his wife Gayla now reside in Abilene, Texas.
