The Living Rite: Ritual and Ceremony in the Egyptian Mysteries (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781066784646)

The ritual heart of the Egyptian mysteries, taught from within the living tradition. A rite is not its words, any more than a play is the words on the page. In the first two volumes of Voices of the Nile, Andy Cooper set out the metaphysics of the Egyptian mysteries and taught how the gods of Egypt may be approached, greeted and truly known. Here he takes that made relationship up into ritual, into the dramatised workings in which the powers are not merely honoured but enacted, and the sacred story is not told but lived. Writing from within the Western Mystery Tradition, and from thirty years of working these rites with his own hands, he gives the reader not scripts to copy but the living things themselves: the shape and the meaning of the great workings, the witness of a life spent inside them, and the way of the life they grow from. Inside, you will find:

• What a rite truly is, where it takes place, and why it changes the one who works it
• The preparing, opening and closing of a temple, and the guarding of its thresholds
• The great workings of the tradition taught in shape and meaning: the House of the Two Sisters, the Mysteries of Isis and Osiris, the Coming of Horus, and the Regeneration of Osiris
• Anubis, the Walker Between the Worlds, with an original litany and creed for his service
• The triads of Egypt, the Seal of the Two Trinities, and the twelve hours of the night
• The Path of the Hearth Fire: the ritual living of an ordinary day, and a Daily Service kept in five minutes

The great workings are described for the reader's understanding, never set down as scripts to perform, for they belong to trained people in a working temple; and every chapter closes with a gentle practice the reader can undertake alone and in safety. This third volume is written for the seeker and the student of the Western esoteric tradition, for anyone drawn to Egypt who wants its wisdom as something to live by, and for readers of Dion Fortune, Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki and the mystery school tradition they carried. The Living Rite is the third of five books in the Voices of the Nile series, opening the inner tradition of Egypt to the seeker of today.
