Ignacio L. G?tz grew up in Caracas, Venezuela. "I left home when I was a teenager, traveled to Spain, and thence lived in India for some thirteen years. In India, I traveled with my parents, but mostly I attended college, where I earned two bachelor's degrees. I also studied to be a Catholic priest, and I was ordained in 1962. I exercised my ministry briefly, as I was drawn to teaching and research." He attended Columbia University Teachers College for a master's degree and earned a Ph.D. at New York University in 1968. Dr. G?tz taught at Hofstra University for thirty-five years and retired in 2001. Since then, he has lived in Point Harbor, North Carolina.
