Howard is a former Medic and Army Ranger, retired from the service. He returned to the mountain of northern Pennsylvania, where he plans to live out his years and settle down someday. One morning he hears a voice, and he can talk with this voice, as it warns him of his life being in danger. Shortly after hearing the voice three men show up to kill him and take control of what they call "The Machine". Howard has no idea what they are talking about and after a fight between them, Howard finds himself on the run, and seeks out his Grand-Father for help. People around him die of reasons unknown, and in a twist of fate he finds himself living alone in the woods. He comes across a woman that he helps and later falls in love with. Together the two of them search out the machine in order to try and bring an end to all the killing and stop those that are hunting him.
