The Mad Reign: An Of Metal and Magic Core Story (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798303682122)

◆BOOK ONE OF THE NORTH SAGA◆

Every palace will collapse once the decay sets in.

The kingdom of Chora has stagnated under the long and brutal rule of King Margutti. Seeking expansion further north, Margutti wages a costly war that has divided the populace and drained the treasury. Ordinary citizens are left wondering why their kingdom has suddenly fallen from the days of strength and virtue. These are the final weeks of a once grand kingdom.

The signs of collapse are all present. A luminous comet soars above a desperate people. Food riots are a daily occurrence. The long-lived king has become a literal monster. The common people are falling from their faith in Lessa. And a heretic is marching with an army of peasants on the capital.

Follow the fall of Chora through the perspectives of multiple characters, whose varied vantage points provide a full accounting of the collapse. Through an unconventional format, THE MAD REIGN collects the accounts of nine distinct witnesses as they watch the world around them crumble.

◆What is an Of Metal and Magic CORE story?◆

CORE stories are all set in the high fantasy world of Soria. These novels, novellas, and short stories, by every-growing group of authors, overlap and interact to build one unified canon. Creating stories within this sort of large-scale shared universe is what OMAM does best. Within the whole of the OMAM CORE series, multi-volume novels, such as CALL OF THE GUARDIAN, are separated into sagas. You can expect to see more from Chris Brock and other OMAM authors in the future.

Regarding the world of Soria, refer to the words Professor Nasrin Arakat, of the famed Telsemar University, who writes, "Soria was once a battlefield of the gods. Ten thousand years ago, dragons warred with unicorns and warred among themselves, and men ultimately bore most of the burden. In the short history of this world, tribal warriors have challenged prophets, empires have risen and fell, new races of humans have emerged and been extinguished. Magic has since disappeared, so today we are left with only stories. Some believe these stories are little more than myth. I believe there is more truth to magic than most are willing to accept."

Other OMAM CORE books include:

CALL OF THE GUARDIAN
SCION OF THE ORACLE
PARIAH'S LAMENT
A WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE
ANCIENT HERITAGE

◆About Chris Brock◆

Chris Brock is an avid reader of medieval literature, Raymond Chandler, and graphic novels. He has a deep interest in psychology books by Julia Kristeva and Lovecraftian inspired texts. He consumes a wide variety of literature and processes that literature into stories such as the one you are looking at right now. You will find a little of Phillip Marlowe here, a little of the psychology of Kristeva, probably too much inspiration from those pedants from the Middle Ages, and just a touch of Lovecraftian madness.
