In the 1960s, Rick Petrocelli worked as a research scientist, followed by seven years as a CEO of a publically traded company, followed by seven years as vice president of the University of Rhode Island, followed by eight years as Commissioner of Higher Education for the State of Rhode Island from which he retired on Jan. 1, 1995. He went on to help establish two software startup companies and served as their Chairman and CFO. In 2014, he at last retired, moved to the retirement community called StoneRidge in Mystic, Ct., and began writing prose and poetry inspired by the over-eighty crowd.
