The Man Who Wouldn't Quit: David Reichert and the Green River Killer Case

In the summer of 1982, the Green River in suburban Seattle gave up its first secret - the body of a young woman found floating just beneath the surface. Within months, more victims surfaced.

Within years, dozens more would follow. By the end, nearly fifty women - daughters, sisters, and dreamers lost to the shadows - would bear the mark of one of the deadliest serial killers in American history.

At the heart of the two-decade manhunt stood Detective David Reichert, a man defined not by fame or fury, but by faith, grit, and an unshakable vow: "I'll find whoever did this."

The Man Who Wouldn't Quit is a deeply human, heart-pounding true story of one detective's relentless pursuit of justice against the faceless evil of the Green River Killer, Gary Ridgway. Drawing from firsthand accounts, case files, and personal reflections, this book traces Reichert's twenty-year crusade through frustration, loss, and the evolution of forensic science - from the muddy riverbanks of 1980s Seattle to the moment DNA finally whispered the killer's name.

But beyond the investigation lies something rarer: a story about what happens to a man who stares into the abyss for too long and somehow keeps his soul intact.

Reichert's journey becomes a mirror for every reader who has ever faced darkness - whether in grief, failure, or fear - and found the strength to keep going. Through faith, compassion, and unyielding persistence, he transforms tragedy into testimony and pain into purpose.

Inside these pages you'll discover:

The haunting first days of the Green River murders - and the toll of obsession on those who hunted the killer.
The uneasy alliance between Reichert and death row inmate Ted Bundy, who offered chilling "insights" into the mind of the murderer.

How early forensic breakthroughs and DNA science forever changed modern criminal justice.

The emotional and spiritual cost of chasing evil for twenty years - and how Reichert's faith helped him endure it.

The legacy of one man's perseverance in an age that too easily gives up.

Both a gripping true-crime thriller and a profound meditation on morality, The Man Who Wouldn't Quit stands alongside Mindhunter, Helter Skelter, and I'll Be Gone in the Dark - but with a rare heartbeat of hope pulsing beneath the horror.

In the end, this is not just the story of how evil was caught - it's the story of how good refused to give up.
"Evil has a face," Reichert once said. "But so does courage."

And long after the Green River grew quiet again, his story reminds us that justice - like faith - may take decades, but perseverance redeems the waiting.
