The Mast and The Storm (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798227770028)

The Mast and the Storm is an intimate and courageous story that collects the voices of those who crossed seas in search of the freedom that their land denied them. It is the memory of fathers who fought with dignity, of grandparents who sowed history with their example and of mothers who taught to resist in silence. Among family memories, the tribute stands to those who left without being fired and to those who remained unremembered, leaving a legacy of pain and hope that crosses generations. But this work is not only a hymn to memory: it is also a stark denunciation of current injustice. It narrates the tragedy of those who fled hunger, repression and the daily misery of Cuba, to find an equally cruel fate in lands that promised refuge. It exposes the reality of deportations that do not distinguish nationality: Haitians, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Guatemalans and so many others are sent back to the misery or violence from which they escaped. These pages reveal how justice is bought with money and influence, leaving the poorest defenseless against a system that criminalizes them for daring to dream of freedom. The book also explores the silent forms of violence faced by those who migrate discrimination for being a woman, constant suspicion and contempt for speaking another language. Women who must endure double humiliations, mothers who protect their children while carrying the fear of being separated from them, and voices that break down when trying to defend themselves in a language they do not master. The Mast and the Storm are not looking for easy consolation. It is a call to recognize the courage of those who dared to abandon everything, to confront the betrayal of democratic promises and to demand a world where freedom is not a privilege of a few, but a real right for all.
