The MultiValue Mentor: Rebuilding the Pick MultiValue Workforce Through Mentorship, Education, and the Power of Shared Knowledge

The systems still work. The people who built them are retiring. And almost no one is training their replacements.

For more than thirty-five years, Roy Contreras has worked at the center of the Pick MultiValue ecosystem - recruiting, placing, and watching the workforce that powers distribution centers, hospitals, manufacturers, and financial institutions around the world. He has seen the technology outlast every prediction of its demise. And he has watched, one conversation at a time, as the talent pipeline quietly dried up.

The MultiValue Mentor is his answer to that crisis.

This is not a technical manual. It is a workforce strategy - written for every company that depends on MultiValue systems, every experienced developer who wonders what happens to their life's work when they retire, and every young professional who has never heard of Pick but is looking for a career path where expertise is genuinely valued and in short supply.

Roy makes the case that the future of the MultiValue ecosystem will not be determined by the technology. The technology already works. What will determine the future is whether the people who understand it are willing to teach - and whether the companies that depend on it are willing to invest in what comes next.

Inside, you will find:

• A clear-eyed account of the generational crisis facing the MultiValue workforce and why it happened
• The Ace Tech Mentorship Model - a four-stage framework for moving a new developer from observation to independent contribution
• Practical guidance for companies ready to build internal talent pipelines rather than compete endlessly for a shrinking pool of experienced professionals
• A structured education pathway developed in partnership with Rocket Software, including the MV Foundation eLearning curriculum at learn.rocketsoftware.com
• Six career track roadmaps covering Front-End Development, Back-End/Pick Development, Database Administration, Systems Analysis, Tech Support, and MVIS Integration
• The economics of mentorship vs. system conversion - including a five-year cost comparison showing $875,000 in potential savings
• A TCL command reference, appendices on workforce planning, and a 10-year industry revitalization roadmap

The MultiValue Mentor is not written out of nostalgia. It is written out of necessity. MultiValue systems quietly continue to power much of the infrastructure the modern world depends on - proven, resilient, and embedded in operations that cannot afford to fail. Passing that knowledge to the next generation is not optional. It is the work.

"The most important legacy is not the code. It is the people."
