A dokkaebi is not a monster.
In Korean folklore, a dokkaebi is born not from fire or wind, but from the things of daily life - an old broom worn smooth by years of use, a chair left standing in the rain, a candle kept burning in a window night after night. It is a spirit born where human life has lingered long.
The Night the Dokkaebi Came gathers seven such stories. Each one begins with an ordinary object and an ordinary person. Each one ends with a choice - to let go, to set something down, to open a door.
None of these dokkaebi are frightening. None of them punish anyone. They simply appear - and in appearing, they show us what we have been holding on to.
For readers of literary fantasy, world folklore, and quiet dark fairy tales.
