What is a Nightly Missive, anyway?

Do you remember where you were when the World Health Organization declared a Global Pandemic? It was a Wednesday; March 11, 2020, to be exact. Three days later, a new era dawned: COVID lockdown.

Like so many others, my friends and I took to our text strings with a vengeance. Over the next week or so, the nightly texts caught on. Over a few more days, the "Nightly Missive," as it (some say "she") became known, developed a style and rhythm of its own.

That is how you have come to be holding an entire year's worth of Nightly Missives. Like life that year, the Missives range from humorous to sad to encouraging to mundane. Also like life that year, while they were inspired by COVID, they are, in fact, about so much more. They are about ALL of us!

The Nightly Missive will give you a glimpse into one person's COVID experience and that of her best friends. You might just see yourselves in these pages or at least be prompted to reflect on your own year. The Missive marches on!
