The No-Fail Polymer Clay Handbook: A Step-by-Step Guide for Adult Beginners: Condition, Bake, and Finish Polymer Clay With No Cracked, Browned, or Ben (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798188274412)

Your first piece looked finished. Then it bent in your fingers and snapped in half.

So you drew the obvious conclusion. You overbaked it. Next time you will go cooler, or pull it out early, just to be safe.

And the second piece is worse than the first.

That is the trap, and it is the most common reason beginners quit this hobby. A piece that snaps is almost never overbaked. It is underbaked. Temperature burns clay. Time strengthens it. Almost nobody tells beginners that sentence, and it is the sentence the whole craft turns on.

Every book on the polymer clay shelf teaches you to make things. Almost none of them teaches you to bake them. Baking gets a paragraph. Conditioning gets a sentence. Sealing gets a product name and no explanation. You are handed a recipe with the load-bearing steps left out, and when the piece fails you assume the problem was your hands.

Your hands were fine. You were missing the rules.

Inside:

• The oven chapter nobody else writes: real temperatures and times for every major brand, why your oven is lying to you about its dial, and the five dollar tool that fixes it
• Why pieces scorch brown on top while the inside is still raw, and how to stop it
• Conditioning, the step everyone skips, plus what to do with clay that is too hard, too crumbly, or too sticky to work
• A troubleshooting clinic organized by what you are looking at: my piece cracked, my piece is brown, my glaze is still sticky
• Which sealers fail on polymer clay, named one by one, and why most pieces need no sealer at all
• Glue that actually holds baked clay, so findings stop pulling out of earrings
• Nine things people will tell you that are wrong
• Projects with clay amounts in grams and dimensions in millimeters. Not "a small ball." Grams.

Written for adult beginners, not kids. The projects are things a grown person would wear, use, or set on a shelf: earrings you would wear to work, a dish for the rings you take off at the sink, drawer pulls, beads that look like stone.

This book does not promise your first attempt will look like a photograph. It promises the part that actually stops people. Your pieces come out of the oven cured. Not cracked. Not scorched. Not bendy.
