Larry Hicks came within four days of being executed in the Indiana electric chair for supposedly stabbing two men to death in a fight in a Gary home in northwest Indiana. He was represented by a public defender who failed to properly investigate the case, did not know that Larry faced the death penalty until a week before trial, yet failed to request a continuance and presented no defense at the day-and-a-half trial, and after sentencing subsequently failed to initiate a timely appeal.
Larry Hicks was a deeply religious and good young man. This is the story of how an absolutely innocent man was nearly executed. And why he was not. -- It is an inspirational story and criminal justice story as well. Thanks for subscribing!
