Three riders galloped down the moonlit road, anxiously watching for patrols of the King's Regulars.
It was April 1775, and the night before the start of the American Revolution. By daybreak, the Minutemen were out, shots were fired, and the War for Independence was on. Paul Revere and William Dawes had just alerted the patriot leaders in Lexington that the Regulars were out searching for them and aimed to destroy the colonists' supplies in Concord. Young Dr. Sam Prescott, a Son of Liberty, joined them on the road to Concord. Suddenly darting out of the woods, a patrol of Regulars, guns drawn, barked "Stop!" Revere was captured, and Dawes fled back toward Lexington. Would Sam escape and make it safely to Concord to warn the patriots?
Sam's story is a small and unheralded, but important, part of this pivotal night when English colonists became Americans and stood up for individual freedoms and liberty.
Children will love Sam's exciting story of how one person's courage and determination can help to preserve liberty. The Other Midnight Rider, a book of historical fiction, adds a new tale for children to the chronicles of the patriots of the American Revolution.
