The Padre On Horseback: A Sketch Of Eusebio Francisco Kino, Apostle To The Pimas (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781169082540)

The Padre On Horseback: A Sketch Of Eusebio Francisco Kino, Apostle To The Pimas is a biographical work written by Herbert Eugene Bolton. The book is centered around the life of Eusebio Francisco Kino, a Jesuit missionary who worked among the Pima Indians in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Kino was a highly respected figure among the Pimas, and he is credited with establishing many of the missions and settlements that helped to bring Christianity and civilization to the region. The book provides a detailed account of Kino's life, including his early years in Europe, his journey to the New World, and his work among the Pimas. The author also explores Kino's relationships with other prominent figures of his time, including Spanish colonial officials and Native American leaders. Throughout the book, Bolton paints a vivid picture of the harsh conditions that Kino faced as a missionary in the American Southwest. He describes the difficult terrain, the dangers posed by hostile tribes, and the challenges of establishing a new community in a harsh and unforgiving environment. Despite these obstacles, Kino persevered, and his legacy continues to be felt in the region to this day. Overall, The Padre On Horseback is a fascinating look at the life of one of the most important figures in the history of the American Southwest. It provides a valuable perspective on the early interactions between Europeans and Native Americans in the region, and it sheds light on the challenges faced by those who sought to bring Christianity and civilization to the frontier. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
