YOU STILL HAVE SOMETHING THE CHURCH NEEDS
"They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing."
- Psalm 92:14
One of the most painful questions an aging Christian can ask is not spoken aloud.
It is whispered in the heart.
"Does anybody still need me?"
There was a time when people called you.
They asked for your advice.
They depended upon you.
You taught the Sunday school class.
You sang in the choir.
You served on committees.
You visited the sick.
You drove people to church.
You organized programs.
You preached sermons.
You led ministries.
You prayed at the altar.
You raised children.
You helped grandchildren.
You cared for aging parents.
You worked, served, sacrificed, gave, and carried responsibilities year after year.
But life changed.
Perhaps you retired.
Perhaps your health declined.
Perhaps your spouse died.
Perhaps you moved.
Perhaps the church changed leadership.
Perhaps younger people assumed responsibilities you once carried.
Perhaps technology changed the way ministry is conducted.
Perhaps you simply discovered one Sunday morning that nobody was asking you to do very much anymore.
And somewhere along the way, a dangerous thought entered your mind:
"Maybe the church doesn't need me anymore."
My dear brother or sister, please hear your pastor's heart.
That is not true.
You still have something the church needs.
