Paul Brooks was editor-in-chief at Houghton Mifflin for twenty years. He was the editor of the Roger Tory Peterson Field Guides and of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring. He received the John Muir Medal, the top national award given by the Sierra Club, for his environmental efforts and the Hal Borland Award of the Audobon Society.
