Doreen Clementine Mampani is a Christian author from South Africa. She writes non-fiction books and poetry. She went through rejection at home, in some churches and communities, unemployment, poverty, loss of material possession, sickness and disease. She suffered racism in her home and communities. By God's grace she wrote and writes her books. Doreen wrote some of her books being unemployed and not owning a computer or laptop and no source of income. Some of the notebooks she found in garbage bins and also used old diaries to write her manuscripts. She borrowed laptops, she cleaned internet café and was given time to type her books on their computers, also did some domestic work. God has honored her hard work in that her books are available world-wide. Doreen learned to speak English at age 17 at an Indian school. All her teachers were Indians and about 97% of students where Indians. She failed Accounting and chose to do typing in the middle of the year. Doreen approached the school principal, (Indian) and asked him to change her Accounting subject to Typing. She did not know much English then. His response was that "my dear, it was never done in this school before". Her response was, Sir, let me be the first one. He approved her request. She did all her subjects at lower grade so has some teachers regarded her. Only two of her teachers encouraged her to achieve in life. Most of her teachers regarded her poverty, inability to speak English, her IQ as that that she could not even enter college doors. Her Accounting teacher (Indian) said to her "Doreen, you are good for the streets". He meant she should be a prostitute. She studied at an Afrikaans/English college where 95% of students and 100% of lectures were Whites. She learned dicta-typing and secretarial skills. She walked to and from college about 5km a day. Her White lecturers notice her determination and helped her. They did not consider her poverty. Doreen was brought up in a fatherless home by three women, her mother, late grand-mother and aunt. The church played a big role in her young age. She chose not to be bitter because of her painful upbringing. God used what the Enemy meant for evil to enable her to discover her talent to write books. Currently she types her own manuscripts, edit and self- publish. Some regard her as a woman who fight against poverty for herself and others. Her response is, "that Lord Jesus Christ may increase and I decrease".
