Dennis Hilgeman is a professional counselor who spent twenty-seven years working with delinquent and abused children. He co-founded a residential program to provide long-term care for these children and counseling for their families. From the beginning of his career, he realized the necessity of community and church involvement in the healing process to help these kids break the cycle of drugs, crime, violence and abuse in their lives. He was recognized on several occasions at both the state and local levels for his efforts on behalf of these troubled children. While working with others, Dennis was able to recognize several issues in his own personal life. For the first time he was able to express sincere gratitude for the extraordinary opportunity he was given. In 1986, he wrote The Poet Christ in tribute to his own personal savior. Realizing the children could not understand traditional bible passages, he wrote, The Kids of Christ in 1988. His stores reflect his efforts to help these children understand traditional bible passages in contemporary terms. In 1992, he wrote Running Naked in the Wind to reflect his own journey to find faith and love in a trouble world. Dennis resides in the small village in Ohio with his wife and six children. He is currently working on a book entitled On the Quality of Mercy. This documents his work over the years helping abused and neglected children find peace in their own personal lives.
