The Problem Called Self (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781806055241)

Every generation inherits the same ancient struggle - the tension between the self we want to be and the self we were created to be. The modern world tells us that the key to peace is to look inward, to build our own identity, to achieve, define, and fulfil ourselves. It tells us that life's highest goal is self-actualisation.

But beneath the surface of these ideals lies an old deception - one as ancient as Eden. It is the belief that the self can exist apart from God, that meaning can be created without reference to the Creator. The more humanity turns inward in the pursuit of freedom, the more it becomes enslaved to its own desires, insecurities, and ambitions.

This book, The Problem Called Self, explores how that deception has shaped the human story - and how the gospel of Christ exposes and heals it.
