As he sat by the roadside after school waiting for his father to come and pick him up, John is abducted by a three-man gang and taken to a park on the outskirts of the city. The rescue marked the beginning of a close friendship between Alnurea and John, and when he became aware of the grave danger that John and his family were facing, Alnurea knew then that he could not turn his back and walk away from them.

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Proud Ndlovu began his teaching career there as a commerce high school teacher. He later on emigrated to Australia where he now teaches at a public high school in Melbourne. The Protector - The Beginning is Proud's second novel. His first novel, Chains of the Past, was published in May 2012. There are two new book projects that Proud is presently working on, Against All Odds and the sequel to The Protector - The Beginning, entitled The Protector - The Return. When asked what the timeline was for the completion of both books, Proud responded that it was still too early to be definitively sure but "The Return is going to be prioritised. I'm targeting late 2015 or early 2016," he said.
