After growing up in poverty in a home with dirt floors, the author went on to obtain a master's degree in Sociology from the State University of Iowa, and then rose to the rank of Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps while serving in both the Second World War and the Korean Conflict. After his life in the Marine Corps, he became one of the first family therapists to ever be licensed by the state of California (#44), and then had a 47 year career as a psychotherapist while also working for the Los Angeles County Probation Department for 27 years. He has had a religious inclination since he was a child, and originally planned on becoming a priest. Instead, he chose to pursue his own search for the meaning and purpose of life, and has been actively involved in the human potential movement since the 1960s while interacting with Terrance McKenna and several other thought leaders in the search for better ways of understanding Man's relationship with God and the Universe.
