The Root Verse / Las Raíces en Verso: Bilingual Edition (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798270496791)

The Root Verse / Las Raíces en Verso bridges two languages, two legacies, and seven generations of memory.

In 1824, more than six thousand free African Americans left the United States and settled in Samaná, Dominican Republic, carrying hymns, hope, and the names that still echo across the sea.

This bilingual poetry collection expands on the world of Story Letters from Samaná, transforming its letters into verses that move between English and Spanish, land and sea, silence and remembrance.

Through parallel poems, Davey Green gives voice to their descendants, turning ancestral silence into song. This edition honors both the language of the land and the language of the journey, a poetic genealogy rooted in heritage, migration, and the survival of memory.

For the ones who planted.
For the ones who stayed.
For the ones still remembering.

(Includes poems, historical notes, and author reflections in both English and Spanish.)
