The Ros Developers: Essential Patterns for Building Scalable Robotic Software (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798189674143)

A robot may begin with a few nodes, topics, and configuration files. Then more sensors, services, actions, computers, and contributors are added-and suddenly, every small change risks breaking something else.

The ROS Developers shows you how to move beyond isolated tutorials and organize complete ROS 2 applications that remain clear, testable, and manageable as they grow.

Inside, you'll learn how to:

• Understand nodes, topics, services, actions, and parameters
• Structure workspaces and packages for reproducible builds
• Write focused Python and C++ nodes
• Separate application logic from communication code
• Design stable messages, services, and actions
• Manage parameters, namespaces, remappings, and launch files
• Use executors, callback groups, and lifecycle nodes correctly
• Select Quality of Service settings for different data streams
• Handle timestamps, coordinate frames, and transforms
• Compose components and distribute workloads across computers
• Test packages, launch systems, and failure conditions
• Diagnose problems with logs, recordings, tracing, and command-line tools
• Prepare applications for containers, security, supervision, and deployment

The explanations are practical and conversational, with projects covering status monitoring, custom interfaces, namespaced sensor stacks, managed controllers, timestamped pipelines, fault testing, and a complete warehouse inspection system.

Whether you're a student, programmer, robotics engineer, or technical team member, this guide will help you create ROS 2 applications that are easier to understand, extend, troubleshoot, and deliver.
