The Salesman: And other stories (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798650634706)

What will an overworked employee do when he finds his racist boss's wallet? What will Lincoln, a struggling writer, do when he stumbles upon an unpublished manuscript hidden in the floor of an old farmhouse being demolished? Why is a serial killer turning into a national celebrity? How will a Navy captain handle an unsuspecting locker room visit from the basketball star who stole his woman? You will find the answers to all these questions and more in this collection of short stories by Brian LaFave. The Wallet and Other Stories is modern fiction at its finest with flawed characters that you can't help but root for. The In-Betweeners is a generational classic for the generation of people who are too old to be Millenials but too young to be a Gen-Y, those who coming of age revolved around the 9/11 attacks and the aftermath in America. The Wallet examines the moral conflict of when a disgruntled employee finds a wallet that belongs to the angry and racist owner of the company he works for. Thanksgiving is a modern examination of the relationship between a step-father and his condescending teenage daughter. "Wildly stimulating and moving, you can't help but fall in love with this collection of characters whom you'll come to love as they navigate through life doing things they shouldn't be doing while acting incredibly human.""Sometimes dark, sometimes funny, sometimes wrong...but always entertaining""A great piece of modern fiction at its finest"A Note From the Author: It takes a lot of courage to read a book from an unknown writer like myself. Not real courage like a fireman rushing into a burning building to save a human being or a service member laying their life on the line so us Americans can continue wasting our lives away eating Cheetos while watching Real Housewives, but some lower level of courage nonetheless. So I must take a moment to thank you for considering this book.Ever since I was in high school, I always wanted to be a writer for some unknown reason. Probably because writers get paid to make stuff up, something I've always done for free. My mom once told me that when I was a little boy, I wanted to be a priest so I'm asking you to thank the good Lord that never panned out because sex and alcohol have always been my vices. I would have been one hell of a terrible priest...but that's a story for another book. After reading The Wallet and Other Stories, some people may like it and some people may not. That's the fickle business of creating anything, whether it is a story, a painting or even a movie; some people will like it and some people will hate it. And that's okay either way. Some of these stories are short, like Return To Sender, and some are long and dragged out, like Demolition Man. I can promise you there will be stories you like, stories you hate and stories your first impression is going to be "what the?" And my hope for everyone who reads this book is you walk away and not sue me for your money back. Joking aside, as an independent publisher of my own work, I publish what I want to publish, raw and unfiltered with my own personal tone and style. And honestly, that's what writing should be about. We all have our own voice and here is mine. These are thirteen stories I've written, and I hope you enjoy them.
