The Satires Of Persius: With English Notes Based On Those Of Macleane And Conington (1875) (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781165074112)

The Satires of Persius is a book containing a collection of satirical poems by the Roman poet Persius, originally written in the 1st century AD. This edition, published in 1875, includes English notes based on those of Macleane and Conington, two prominent scholars of classical literature at the time. The notes provide explanations and interpretations of the Latin text, making it accessible to readers who may not be familiar with the language or the historical context in which the poems were written. The satires themselves are biting and often humorous critiques of Roman society and its values, including hypocrisy, greed, and the pursuit of power. They offer a fascinating glimpse into the mindset of a young Roman intellectual during a time of political and social upheaval. Overall, The Satires of Persius is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the literature and culture of ancient Rome. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
