Will her choices and mistakes along this journey keep her from the happiness she's always dreamt of? Tessa's home is the lovely Cape Town of South Africa, and although circumstances pull her away, the Cape is forever imprinted on her heart. After tragedy strikes in her home and her beloved brother and his attractive friend, Blake, are called to arms, Tessa is forced to leave the home of her childhood with questions of whether God or Blake really care about her. Staying with family on a red dirt farm in South Africa, Tessa adjusts to more primitive living but comes to find one particular pleasure at her temporary home...the flirtatious and handsome family friend and farmhand, Wayne. Feeling disconnected from God, her brother, and her childhood love, Tessa relishes the attention Wayne gives her...but will she later regret giving this ruthless and selfish man an opening into her heart as he is hell-bent on destroying his life and the lives of those around him? Follow Tessa on a journey from faith in God to resentment towards Him, from loving steady Blake to enticing Wayne, from the ocean to the farms. And as the echo of a seagull's cry stirs the longing inside of Tessa once more, can she find her way home?

Jenny Hewett Smith was born the second of four children to Loretta and Theodore Jerry Hewett in Cape Town, South Africa. There she grew up during the years of violence in turbulent South Africa, where the many divisions in the country created a fear based society. Jenny's parents moved to New Orleans in America in 1992 and Jenny and her husband followed soon after. While raising two young daughters, she felt the need to write her story so that her children would not take for granted the many freedoms they had in America. The true story took on a life of its own, and 'A Land Far Away' was born. Jenny and her family now live in Daphne, Alabama, with their two crazy dogs, Mitzi and Sweet Pea. She works part time at a Health Food Store and writes whenever she can carve out a quiet hour or two. Besides reading, she loves long walks and picking up shells on the beach. Her book "Twenty Eight Lessons My Dogs Have Taught Me about God" will be available shortly.
