Ira E. Harrison, PhD, MPH is a retired associate professor emeritus of anthropology, a public health behavioral scientist and poet. Dr. Harrison has been a consultant to the Emma and Joe Adams Public Service Institute, the Coordinator of the Racial Justice Program at Morehouse College, religious researcher and assistant director of Church Planning for the Ohio Council of Churches and the Southwest Ohio Regional Church Planning Board. Harrison has served as the Director, Division of Behavioral Science with the Department of Health, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Public Health Behavioral Scientist with the Maternal and Child Health and Family Planning Center at Meharry Medical College. He was an Administrative Resident in the Office of Community Health, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Project Director for the National Center for the Study of Aged, and a professor of anthropology at Vanderbilt and the University of Tennessee. His publications include African-American Pioneers in Anthropology, African Therapeutic Systems, Community Health Process and York Charrette Action, The Youngstown Church Survey, papers, reports, and seven books of poetry. Dr. Harrison is married to Claire Crooks-Harrison, the father of three children, six grand and two great grandchildren. He is the past Vice Moderator, First Congregational Church, and past historian, treasurer and president of the Georgia Poetry Society.
