Even though he was born in California, Randy grew up in Colorado in a mountain community 12 miles west of Castle Rock. His first exposure to the fantasy genre was "The Hobbit". So thoroughly did he enjoy it that he dove right into "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and vowed that he would one day write his own fantasy novel. Randy began reading novels at a very young age. Devouring them, all kinds of books about adventures and sports heroes, classics from Dickens to scifi novels by Asimov and Bradbury. Then The Hobbit came into his possession and he wanted more. He read the Fellowship of the Ring, the Silmarillion some novels by Terry Brooks and others in the fantasy genre. After high school he traveled the country knowing that one day he would become an author writing adventure stories. He loved movies about pirates and science fiction. Working at various jobs to round out his knowledge and to gain experience he grew to love the sea, the mountains and nature.
