A Fairly Simple Thought

It's a fairly simple thought I had to write about the seasons,
To attempt to capture what I see
And perhaps the deeper reasons
Behind the cycles set in time yet still so very fragile.
At times, the pen wrote haltingly,
At others flowing agile,
Revealing meter, verse, and rhyme, creating a collection
Of poems that will offer forth
Each seasonal reflection.
And though the four of temperate north were given central places,
These lyrics cover climate norms
That hold in other cases.
Surrounding all the seasons' forms are themes, more universal,
Of space and vast galactic time,
And of the great reversal
In which we start to realize that we're the ones revolving
Around the stars above our eyes
And, through it all, evolving.
So now, perhaps, you've read this rhyme and find your mind engages.
Perhaps your heart will now be glad
To open up these pages.

John Trimmer was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1987. After growing up in the rural, rolling hills of the southern part of the state, he attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Moving to the University of South Florida, he enrolled in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department's Peace Corps Master's International Program. From 2011 to 2014, he served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Kalisizo, Uganda, where he worked with Brick by Brick Uganda, an organization focused on local education, economic development, and health. After concluding his service, John returned to the University of South Florida, where he graduated in 2015 with a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering. At the time of this book's publication, he is pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
