The Unification Of London: The Need And The Remedy (1895) (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781120341334)

The Unification of London: The Need and the Remedy is a book written by John Leighton in 1895. It is a detailed analysis of the problems and challenges faced by the city of London at the time and proposes a solution for unifying the city. The book argues that the current system of local government in London is inefficient and ineffective, leading to a lack of coordination and cooperation between different areas of the city. Leighton advocates for the creation of a single, unified government for London, which would be responsible for all aspects of city management, including transportation, sanitation, and public safety. He also suggests that this government should be elected by the people of London, rather than appointed by the central government. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the history of London and its local government, as well as a detailed analysis of the issues facing the city at the time. It is considered an important work in the history of urban planning and governance, and its ideas have influenced subsequent discussions about the future of London and other major cities around the world. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
