Description
Description
x
Utilities contracts don't operate like normal construction contracts.
They look familiar.
NEC.
Subcontracts.
Framework agreements.
But what you are actually working under is something very different.
A system.
Where:
  • payment is controlled through multiple mechanisms
  • performance is measured and deducted
  • rates are applied across changing conditions
  • risk is spread across documents that don't always align
That is where subcontractors get caught.
Not because they didn't read the contract.
Because they didn't see how it would behave.
The Utilities & Framework Contracts Before You Sign That Contract is part of the Before You Sign Series; practical, straight-talking guides designed to show subcontractors what they are really agreeing to before they commit.
  • The NEC4 Before You Sign That Contract
  • The JCT Before You Sign That Contract
  • The NEC Short Form Before You Sign That Contract
  • The FIDIC Before You Sign That Contract
  • The Utilities and Framework Contracts Before You Sign That Contract
Inside this book, you will learn:
  • how NEC ECC, TSC, and ECS actually operate in utilities
  • why frameworks are not one contract, but a system
  • where KPI regimes quietly reduce your payment
  • how Schedule of Rates work against you over volume
  • why legacy ICE contracts can be more dangerous than they look
This is not legal theory.
This is how these contracts behave on real jobs.
If you price based on what the contract says, you will miss the risk.
If you understand what the contract does, you can control it.

Because in utilities:
you don't lose money in one decision.
You lose it through a pattern.

Before you sign anything; understand the system you are stepping into.
